Cerkiew św. Nikity Męczennika w Kostomłotach

Cerkiew św. Nikity Męczennika w Kostomłotach is a wooden Eastern Orthodox church near Lublin that stands on stone foundations and is clad with horizontal wooden planks. The structure is reinforced with vertical posts and displays traditional Eastern European timber craftsmanship.

The building was constructed in 1631 and underwent several renovations, including a major restoration in 1852 funded by Józef Łoski, the estate owner. These efforts allowed the structure to maintain its original form to the present day.

The church holds a valuable collection of religious art, including a 17th-century icon of Saint Nicetas and a two-tier iconostasis with geometric patterns. These works reflect the Byzantine traditions that remain visible in this place of worship.

The building serves as an Ecumenical Center, organizing religious retreats for youth of different Christian denominations throughout the year. Visitors should check in advance which times are available for public visits.

This is the only Neo-Uniate parish in Poland, maintaining Eastern Catholic traditions since its founding. This rare religious identity makes the place a significant witness to an almost disappeared Christian tradition.
