Płowce, Historic battlefield village in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland
Płowce is a village in the Kujavia-Pomerania region of north-central Poland, lying about 9 kilometers east of Radziejów and located within Gmina Radziejów. The settlement sits in a flat, rural landscape typical of the area, with scattered houses and open fields.
In 1331, a major battle took place here where Polish forces under King Władysław I defeated Teutonic Knight attacks. This victory helped limit Teutonic expansion into the region.
The village name reflects its role as a battlefield, and visitors can see a memorial cross and monument marking where Polish forces held their ground against Teutonic Knights.
The village is easily reached by car, located near regional roads in the flat landscape. The memorial site is open to visitors and offers a good starting point for exploring the countryside.
The 1331 battle took place in heavy morning fog, which affected how the fighting unfolded and led to the capture of several Teutonic commanders. Among those captured was Heinrich Reuss von Plauen, a senior leader of the Order.
