Dom bankowy Wilhelma Landaua, Tenement house and bank in Katedralna, Łódź, Poland.
Dom bankowy Wilhelma Landaua is a three-story corner building with a rounded edge topped by a dome in Lodz. The structure displays six windows facing Piotrkowska Street and eight windows facing Więckowskiego Street with eclectic architectural style.
Wilhelm Landau founded his banking house in 1858 and later expanded to Lodz in 1870, with this building constructed between 1902 and 1903. The structure embodies the economic expansion of an important banking institution in the city.
The facade displays the head of Mercury, the god of commerce, surrounded by leaves and plants above the main entrance portal. These ornaments reflect the building's original purpose as a banking house.
The building originally housed the bank on the first floor, luxury apartments on upper levels, and retail spaces on the ground floor. The arrangement reflects the mixed-use program typical of Lodz urban buildings from that period.
In 1962 the building received the first rotating, three-story, color neon sign installation in the entire city of Lodz. This installation made it a visual landmark of modernization during the communist era.
