Dębno Castle, Late Gothic castle in Dębno, Poland

Dębno Castle is a late Gothic brick fortress with four two-story buildings arranged around a trapezoidal courtyard, with cylindrical towers positioned in the western section. The entire structure forms a closed quadrangle typical of medieval Polish defensive architecture.

Crown Chancellor Jakub Dębiński built this castle between 1470 and 1480, replacing an earlier wooden fortress that had stood on the site since the 13th century. The shift from timber structures to brick construction reflected the growing power and wealth of the nobility during that period.

The Knights' Hall shows how medieval Polish nobles designed their spaces, with stone seating and decorated arches that speak to their tastes. Walking through these rooms gives you a sense of the daily life and status of the aristocracy of that time.

The Regional Museum in Tarnów manages this site and welcomes visitors throughout the year with guided tours available. It is helpful to check ahead about visiting times, as they may vary depending on the season.

The castle holds an annual international tournament for knights called 'For the Tarło's Golden Tress' that brings medieval traditions to life. This event draws visitors who want to experience history in a hands-on and authentic way.
