Upper Liswarta Forests Landscape Park, Landscape park in Herby, Poland
The Upper Liswarta Forests Landscape Park is a protected landscape area in Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland, near the town of Herby. It covers forests, wetlands, ponds, and the valley of the Liswarta River, which gives the park its name.
Plans to protect this area were drawn up in the early 1980s by two researchers who mapped out its future boundaries. After new legislation came into force in the mid-1990s, the park was officially established on December 21, 1998.
The park has marked trails for walking and cycling, and staying on these paths helps protect the wildlife and vegetation. Water areas and wetlands are good spots for birdwatching, especially in spring and summer.
The park contains around 60 ancient oaks and pines registered as natural monuments, alongside rock formations known locally as Devil's Stones, which date back to the Jurassic period. The Liswarta River itself begins its course near the village of Mzyki, at around 315 meters above sea level, within the park's own boundaries.
