Kościół św. Jadwigi w Krakowie, Medieval church site on Stradom Street, Kraków, Poland.
St. Hedwig's Church stood at Stradomska Street 12-14 and was part of a larger building complex with a monastery and hospital. The site functioned as a religious center with several areas serving both the community and the monastic order.
King Casimir the Great started construction in 1378, which his sister Queen Elizabeth of Hungary continued until completion in 1383. After several fires and reconstructions, the building was later converted into office spaces.
The church was an important place for prayer and worship in the 16th century with six altars. It served as a spiritual center for the Order of the Holy Sepulchre from Miechów.
The building required frequent renovations and had to be rebuilt several times after damage. The site is no longer accessible today as the structure closed in 2010 and the land has been repurposed.
Excavations in 2018 revealed a historical cemetery beneath the building during its conversion into the Stradom House hotel complex. The discovery provided insight into centuries of burial practices at this location.
