New Synagogue, Przemyśl

The New Synagogue in Przemyśl is located at Juliusza Słowackiego 15 and displays Art Nouveau forms with ornamental exterior details and stained glass windows throughout its facade. The building contains multiple interior levels and spaces arranged to accommodate the congregation and its religious functions.

Construction began in 1910 under architect Stanisław Majerski and was completed in 1918. The building suffered severe damage from Nazi forces during their occupation of the region.

The interior walls and ceiling feature paintings of Biblical scenes and symbols from Eretz Israel, showing how the local Jewish community expressed their religious identity. These artworks remain visible today and shape how the space feels to visitors.

The building now operates as the Ignacy Krasicki Public Library and welcomes visitors to view its architecture. You can examine the exterior details and interior artistic elements at your own pace during library opening hours.

Local artist Adolf Bienenstock created the original stained glass windows and incorporated elements of the Young Poland artistic movement into the design. His work shows how modern artistic trends shaped the religious architecture of the city.
