The castle originated in 1132 as a prince's residence and underwent reconstruction in 1610 by Heinrich von Hörnig into a fortified structure.
The Knights of the Cross with the Red Star transformed the building into a Baroque palace in the 18th century, following designs by Christoph Hackner.
The castle now functions as the Zamek Cultural Centre, offering spaces for exhibitions, concerts, and community gatherings throughout the year.
Prince Henryk Brodaty attempted to secure ownership of the castle by altering his father's testament, marking a significant moment in its ownership history.
