Dąb Mazowiecki Bartek, Monumental pedunculate oak in Emów, Poland
Dąb Mazowiecki Bartek is a monumental pedunculate oak in Emów that stands approximately 25 meters tall with a substantial trunk. Its wide crown spreads across the landscape and dominates the area along the Mienia River in the Swider Nature Reserve.
This oak was designated as a natural monument in 2009, formally recognizing its ecological importance. The protection status secured its place among the recognized natural heritage sites in the Wiązowna municipality.
The tree carries a name that references another notable oak in the Zagnańsk region, connecting it to local traditions of naming significant trees. This naming practice shows how such natural monuments become anchored in community identity and serve as points of reference for the people living nearby.
The tree stands within the Swider Nature Reserve and can be reached by following a path alongside the Mienia River. Visit during dry weather when the trail is most accessible and easy to walk.
The trunk bears a large scar likely caused by a lightning strike, giving the tree a distinctly marked appearance. Despite this wound, the tree maintains good health, which puzzles scientists who suspect the interior may be largely hollow.
