Saint James church in Tolkmicko

Saint James church is a Gothic brick structure with massive walls in monk bond pattern, pointed windows set between buttresses, and a four-sided tower at its western end. The building preserves both these medieval features and later neo-Gothic details added during renovation.

The church was built as a brick structure in the third quarter of the 14th century, replacing an earlier wooden building, and was consecrated in 1376 by Bishop Henry III of Warmia. This shift from wood to stone marked the settlement's growing importance to the local parish.

The interior displays neo-Gothic furnishings from the 1900-1902 renovation, with altars and sculptures reflecting regional ecclesiastical traditions of Warmia.

The church is located on Kościelna Street 2 and remains an active Roman Catholic parish church, allowing visitors to experience regular services and community gatherings. Those wishing to visit the interior should check hours of access beforehand.

The roof design features individual transverse roofs over each aisle section, a construction method shared with the parish church in Orneta. This uncommon roofing solution makes the building architecturally distinctive for the region.
