Palace Park, Historic park in Strzelce Opolskie, Poland
Palace Park is a large green space in Strzelce Opolskie featuring artificial hills, ponds, and pathways spread across the grounds. The landscape includes sections with mature trees and a small island in the central pond that serves as a bird sanctuary.
The park was established in the 1830s after a Count sent his gardener to London to study contemporary park design. With this knowledge, the space was developed as a private landscape garden and later protected as a public monument.
Local people use this space as a place for walks and quiet time, drawn especially to the mature trees that have provided shade for many generations. The pathways guide visitors through different views and sections, creating a natural rhythm for spending an afternoon here.
The park can be reached easily from Zamkowa Street and has several benches positioned throughout, especially near the central pond. Various paths allow for exploring without special equipment, and both flat and hilly areas offer different levels of walking difficulty.
The artificial hills were created through an unusual method: hundreds of workers moved soil by wheelbarrow over time to shape the landscape. This labor-intensive manual process shaped the park, which today still displays these visible rises across its terrain.
