Jaskinia Ostrężnicka, Karst cave in Janow, Poland
Jaskinia Ostrężnicka is a karst cave in Janow that extends roughly 90 meters into the limestone rock. Inside, a series of passages and chambers follow one after another, with ceiling heights that gradually decrease as you move deeper.
The cave once served as a natural dungeon beneath Castle Ostreznicki. The entrance doors were moved later to a church in Zloty Potok.
Local people call the rocky pillar that divides the entrance into two sections the lungs because of how it is shaped. This name shows how visitors and residents think of the cave as a living part of their landscape.
The western section is the most accessible part and contains two tall corridors shaped by water flow. This area offers the best opportunity to explore the cave structure.
The sandy clay sediments inside contain animal bones and traces of prehistoric human settlement. These finds provide important clues about early human activity in this region.
