Dzerzhinsky, Industrial town in Moscow Oblast, Russia.
Dzerzhinsky is an industrial town in Moscow Oblast, Russia, situated along the Moskva River. The layout features multistory apartment blocks, factory buildings, and an old monastery complex that stands out among the modern roads.
The settlement developed around the Ugresha Monastery, founded in the year 1380. It received official town status in 1981 following Soviet administrative reforms.
The Nicholas Ugreshsky Monastery stands at the center of local life, with walls painted in orthodox frescoes that still draw worshippers and pilgrims. Visitors see monks in black robes and hear church bells marking the hours across the residential streets.
The town is accessible via the Lyubertsy–Dzerzhinsky railway line, which stops at several points between residential areas and industrial zones. Routes to the monastery are signposted and lead through wide streets with sidewalks.
The Heat and Power Station No. 22 supplies electricity and heating not only to the town itself but also to large parts of the surrounding Moscow region. Its cooling towers are visible from many points in town and shape the local skyline.
