Vnukovo International Airport, International airport in Vnukovo District, Moscow, Russia
Vnukovo International Airport is an international airport in the Vnukovo District of Moscow, Russia, operating two main terminals for passenger processing. The facility has two runways that run parallel to each other and allow flight operations in different weather conditions.
Work began in the late 1930s with the aim of creating a new air transport hub in the south of the capital. After opening during World War II, the facility was initially used for military purposes before later transitioning to civilian operations.
The terminal displays several murals from the Soviet era that depict the progress of aviation, and replicas of historical aircraft models stand in public areas. Travelers can also view a small exhibition documenting the expansion of Moscow's airports.
Aeroport Vnukovo metro station provides a direct connection to the city center, and buses run to different districts and to the metro. Currency exchange and luggage storage are located in the arrivals and departures areas of both terminals.
A separate facility within the grounds serves government flights exclusively and has its own control areas. Passengers do not see this facility as it is completely separated from the public area.
