Engels-2

Engels-2 is a military air base in Saratov Oblast with a 3,500-meter runway and several hangars for maintaining strategic bombers. The facility has specialized infrastructure designed to support and service these large aircraft.

The base was established in 1952 under Soviet command as a pilot training facility. It later transformed into a center for maintaining long-range bombers.

The base museum displays aircraft and documents showing how Russian long-range aviation developed over time. Visitors can trace the evolution of military flight technology through the collection.

Visitors should be aware that this is an active military facility with strict security rules and potential delays. Access to certain areas may be limited and require special permission.

This is the only facility in Russia where the Tupolev Tu-160, the world's largest and heaviest combat aircraft, is stationed and maintained. The aircraft can reach speeds exceeding 2,200 kilometers per hour (1,367 miles per hour) and represents a remarkable engineering achievement.
