Zhukovsky International Airport, International airport in Zhukovsky Urban Okrug, Russia
Zhukovsky International Airport is an international airport in Zhukovsky Urban Okrug, located approximately 36 kilometers (22 miles) southeast of central Moscow. The terminal sits at an elevation of 123 meters (404 feet) and features several processing halls along with parking areas for short- and medium-haul aircraft.
The site originated in 1941 as an airfield for the Flight Research Institute and served for decades in the development and testing of Soviet aircraft. On May 30, 2016 it opened as an international passenger airport and has since handled scheduled airline services.
The airport grounds host the MAKS Airshow, an aerospace exhibition held every two years that draws professionals and visitors from many countries. During these days the sprawling site becomes a meeting point for pilots and engineers who demonstrate new aircraft and helicopters.
The terminal facilities are designed to handle roughly 2 million passengers per year and offer basic amenities such as baggage belts and waiting areas. Airlines like Ural Airlines connect the airport grounds with destinations in Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Israel.
The management structure operates through a joint venture between Lithuanian firm Avia Solutions Group and Russian state corporation Rostec. This partnership arrangement combines private aviation services from Western Europe with state participation from Russia.
