Елизаветинское городище, Hillfort in Yelizavetinskaya, Russia.
The archaeological site extends across an area of 200 by 500 meters, featuring two citadels surrounded by a defensive moat on elevated terrain.
Established in the 5th century BCE, this fortified settlement served as a center for the Meotian tribe and maintained trade connections with the Bosporan Kingdom.
Archaeological excavations since 1934 have uncovered pottery kilns, ceramic fragments, and numerous artifacts that demonstrate the manufacturing capabilities of ancient inhabitants.
Visitors can observe exposed cultural layers along the terrace edge, where ceramic fragments and other historical objects regularly surface through natural erosion.
The site contains two distinct mound-shaped citadels within a single moat system, creating an uncommon defensive configuration for settlements of this period.
