Მაროვსკის ჯვართამაღლების მონასტერი

The Marovsky Exaltation of the Cross Monastery stands on the right bank of the Oka River, featuring traditional Russian ecclesiastical architecture with white walls.

The monastery emerged in the early 19th century following the relocation of religious communities from three previous monasteries near the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin.

The monastery includes the Church of Saint Nicholas and maintains regular religious services, continuing centuries-old Orthodox Christian traditions in the region.

Visitors need permission from Mother Superior Elisabeth and must bring appropriate clothing, including head coverings for women and specific footwear for different areas.

The monastery grounds contain the reburied remains of abbesses who led the institution between 1830 and 1908, discovered during archaeological excavations in 2006.
