Հերոսների հրապարակ, Central memorial square in Novorossiysk, Russia
Heroes Square is a memorial site located along the waterfront of Novorossiysk harbor, built with granite structures and walls honoring military service. The 160-meter-long space arranges monuments and memorial elements that form a coherent complex by the sea.
The site began as a commercial center in 1926 before becoming a memorial to those killed during World War II. A white granite obelisk was raised in 1940, followed by the eternal flame in 1960.
The square serves as a place of remembrance for those who died protecting the city during wartime. Visitors walking through notice the names carved into granite surfaces and feel the weight of this memorial space.
The square sits directly on the harbor promenade and is easily reached on foot from the city center. The waterfront location makes it convenient to visit while exploring the port area.
Underground mass graves beneath the square hold the remains of military personnel who fell defending the region. Among them are Major Cesar Kunikov and Lieutenant Nikolai Sipyagin, whose burial here marks the deep connection between this place and the soldiers it honors.
