Blue Stone, Sacred boulder in Gorodishche, Russia
Blue Stone is a granite boulder located on the northeastern shore of Lake Pleshcheyevo near the village of Kriushkino. Its surface contains mica minerals that give the rock its distinctive blue tint when wet.
The stone was accidentally moved across the frozen lake during the 1780s for church construction work and sank through the ice. It remained underwater for approximately 70 years before being recovered.
This stone held religious meaning for the Merya people and early Slavic communities who gathered here for sacred ceremonies by the lake.
The boulder sits just slightly above water level, which means access can vary depending on lake water levels. Visit on clear weather days to better see the blue coloring on its surface.
Many visitors and locals attribute healing powers to this stone, particularly for treating infertility and everyday ailments. These beliefs have persisted through generations and continue to shape how people visit the place.
