Chertkov Library is a two-story manor with light blue facades decorated with rococo ornaments, pilasters, and atlantes figures supporting the structure. A central balcony with balustrade stairs marks the main entrance, and the building originally combined residential spaces with library rooms.
The estate was constructed in 1787 by architect Semyon Karin and was owned by the Saltykov family for approximately a century. Colonel Chertkov purchased the property in 1831 and transformed it into a repository for book collection and preservation.
The house served as a gathering place for writers during the 1800s, where literary figures met to discuss and develop their works. The library within its walls played a role in shaping the direction of Russian literature at that time.
