The first mechanized factory kitchen in the Soviet Union occupied a 19th-century building with extensions and featured German-manufactured equipment including electric washers, dryers, and potato peelers. The facility was designed with modern machinery to process meals efficiently on an industrial scale.

This facility opened on March 29, 1925, pioneering the concept of mechanized mass food preparation in the Soviet Union. The installation represented a significant leap forward in how the state approached feeding its urban workforce at scale.

This kitchen factory embodied a shift in how Soviet workers ate together, introducing centralized meal preparation and shared dining spaces as a new way of life. The concept transformed domestic living spaces by reducing the need for private kitchens in homes.

The building now houses the Regional Children's Library and welcomes visitors during standard opening hours. Arriving in the morning allows you to explore the spaces comfortably without feeling rushed.

The complex supplied meals to eight different factory canteens and served roughly a quarter of Ivanovo's industrial workers at its peak. This scale of operation made it one of the most ambitious food production experiments in Soviet economic planning.
