Church of the Intercession

The Church of the Intercession is a brick building with unplastered walls that combines Byzantine, Italian Renaissance, and Russian Revival design elements. The structure rises distinctly from its surroundings with a notable silhouette among the lower residential buildings around it.

Construction started in 1907 under architect Pyotr Studenikin and proceeded over several decades. After being repurposed during the Soviet era as a granary and ammunition storage, the building was returned to religious use in 1988.

The church serves as a spiritual center where the local Orthodox community gathers for religious celebrations and regular meetings. Visitors can observe living traditions of Eastern Orthodox practice that shape the rhythms of daily life in the city.
