Nagatinsky Zaton, Metro station in Southern Administrative District, Moscow, Russia
Nagatinsky Zaton is a metro station on the Bolshaya Koltsevaya line in southern Moscow. The station has a single island platform, and its walls and corridors are covered floor to ceiling with mosaic panels depicting different fish species.
Construction began in 2017, and the station opened in 2023 as part of the expansion of the Bolshaya Koltsevaya line. This outer circle line was built in sections over several years to link parts of Moscow that had previously been poorly connected.
The fish mosaics covering the walls draw inspiration from ancient Roman artworks held in Moscow collections. Walking along the platform feels like moving through an underwater world, with the tiled images surrounding passengers on all sides.
The station sits between Klenovy Bulvar and Pechatniki on the Bolshaya Koltsevaya line, and signs inside are clear and easy to follow. Nearby interchange stations make it simple to transfer to other lines across the city.
The benches on the platform are not separate furniture but are built directly into curved half-ring structures that rise from the floor. This makes the entire platform feel like one continuous design rather than a space with objects placed inside it.
