Казачий стан, Natural limestone cave in Uvelsky district, Russia
Kazachiy Stan is a cave system formed in limestone with two entrances located at the base of karst sinkholes. The passages run through natural tunnels with varying widths and heights over several hundred meters.
Naturalist Peter Simon Pallas documented this cave in 1770 and observed its use as a refuge. Old Believers used the chambers as hiding places during periods of religious persecution in that era.
Local residents maintain numerous legends about the cave system, including tales of underground passages connecting to distant caves in the surrounding limestone landscape.
Bring a flashlight and protective clothing when exploring the passages for your own safety. Having a guide familiar with the cave system helps you navigate the complex layout without getting lost.
The Green Corridor features an unusual natural light phenomenon that allows moss and lichen to grow within the otherwise dark cave environment. This rare feature makes this section biologically distinctive.
