Arbatets square

Arbatets Square sits at the intersection of Gogolevsky Boulevard and Znamenka Street, functioning as a green space within these busy streets. The Chapel of Saints Boris and Gleb anchors the square, surrounded by grass and trees.

The square emerged after the Arbat Gates, which were part of an older city wall, were demolished in the 1700s. This transformation created an open space that reshaped the urban landscape.

The square was once home to the Arbatsky Theater in the early 1800s, which was destroyed during Moscow's great fire. Today, the Chapel of Saints Boris and Gleb shapes the religious character of the place and draws both visitors and worshippers.

The square is easily reached via the Arbatskaya metro station on the Filyovskaya Line, which lies nearby. The station provides quick connections to Moscow's central areas.

A decorative reservoir that was originally built as a fire protection system in the 1800s sits on the southern edge of the square. This structure was later redesigned with new features in the 1900s.
