Оружейникам Удмуртии, героям трудового фронта Великой Отечественной войны, monument in Izhevsk, Russia
The monument to weapon makers of Udmurtia is made of bronze, granite, and concrete and stands outside Izhevsk University. Three bronze figures standing on wooden platforms are surrounded by stone pillars displaying photographs and texts from the war period.
Unveiled in 2019, the monument honors factories in Izhevsk, particularly Izhmash, which produced weapons for the Soviet Union during the Second World War. The city and its industry played a critical role in sustaining arms production on what was called the labor front.
The monument honors weapon factory workers from Udmurtia and their role in the war economy. The bronze figures depict young people who symbolize the workers, many of them women and teenagers, who kept production running while others fought on the front lines.
The monument is located near the university and is freely accessible to the public, with public transportation stops nearby. Visitors can walk around the figures and read the accompanying photographs and inscriptions at their own pace.
The wooden platforms beneath the figures were modeled after historical photographs taken inside the factories during the war years. This connects the artistic representation directly to documentary evidence from the period.
