Georgy Sviridov museum in Fatezh
The Georgy Sviridov museum in Fatezh is a house museum in a 19th-century building protected as a federal heritage site. Four rooms spanning over 100 square meters display items from the composer's childhood, youth, and career, including photographs, personal belongings, and the Becker upright piano he played as a child.
The building was constructed in the first half of the 19th century and initially served a merchant and later operated as a school. When the museum opened in 2005, it was transformed to honor the composer born there in 1915, with a memorial bust added in 2006 to commemorate his legacy.
The building preserves memories of a composer whose work became deeply rooted in Russian musical tradition. Visitors can see how a provincial childhood shaped artistic sensibility and creative expression through the objects and rooms on display.
The museum operates Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00 and is closed Mondays and Sundays. The building is accessible to visitors with mobility needs, and staff offer guided tours along with concerts and lectures, especially during December celebrations honoring the composer's birth.
The composer's first piano, a Becker upright from the 1920s, is a rare family heirloom displayed prominently in the museum and was gifted to the family during difficult times after his father's death. This preserved instrument creates a direct, tangible connection between visitors and Sviridov's earliest musical experiences.
