Bridge of the Centaurs

The Bridge of the Centaurs is a stone structure in Pavlovsk Park that crosses the Slavyanka River and features decorative stone figures integrated into its design. The structure connects two sections of the park and displays classical proportions with finely detailed railings and sculptural ornaments.

The structure was built in 1795 as part of the comprehensive artistic development of Pavlovsk Park under Catherine the Great. This period saw the creation of many architectural masterpieces that transformed the estate into a monument of 18th-century Russian grandeur.

The bridge takes its name from the centaur sculptures adorning its railings, bringing Greek mythology into the park's design language. Visitors crossing it encounter these stone mythical creatures, which reflected the classical artistic tastes of the era.

The site is located within Pavlovsk Park and is easily accessible to visitors exploring the grounds. Wear comfortable shoes, as you will walk through the park on varied terrain, and be prepared for uneven pathways in certain areas.

The centaur sculptures on the bridge were created by Italian craftsmen hired specifically for the Pavlovsk project. These international artisans left a lasting mark on the European character of the entire park complex.
