Arkhangelsky Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Cherepovets, Russia
The Arkhangelsky Bridge is a cable-stayed crossing over the Sheksna River in Cherepovets with a total length of 3500 meters and a width of 30.6 meters (roughly 100 feet). Its design connects four major city districts and carries roadways in both directions across multiple lanes.
Construction began in 2018 with the goal of creating a second major link alongside the Soviet-era Oktyabrsky crossing. The opening took place in 2022 and has since eased access to industrial zones on both banks of the Sheksna River.
The structure takes its name from the city of Arkhangelsk in the far north, chosen by residents to reflect ties between regions. Today commuters from working neighborhoods and residential areas cross simultaneously, and the flow of traffic mirrors the city's dependence on heavy industry.
Traffic flows continuously in both directions across this crossing, used mainly by trucks avoiding the older Oktyabrsky span. Drivers should expect slowdowns during morning and evening rush hours.
The naming decision came from a public vote in which residents chose from several proposals. The opening happened several months earlier than planned, allowing relief for the older Oktyabrsky crossing to take effect sooner.
