Всехсвятский скит, Orthodox hermitage in Teryayevo, Russia
The All Saints Skete (Всехсвятский скит) is an Orthodox hermitage with white stone walls and corner towers set inside a conifer forest near the Joseph-Volokolamsk Monastery, outside Teryayevo. The small complex holds a summer church, a winter church, and a bell tower, all enclosed within a low stone perimeter wall.
The skete was built in 1849 to designs by architects K.I. Brandt and A.M. Gornostaev, intended as a secluded place of prayer for monks of the Joseph-Volokolamsk Monastery. It was founded as a dependency of that larger monastery and has remained tied to its religious community ever since.
The skete is home to monks who follow strict rules, and visitors can sense the weight of that daily routine when walking through the grounds. Small chapels and tended garden paths show how prayer shapes every part of life here.
The skete sits a short walk from the main Joseph-Volokolamsk Monastery along forest paths, so sturdy footwear is a good idea. Visiting hours follow the monastic schedule, so it is worth checking current access rules before you go.
A water well dug by hand in 1857 still stands on the grounds and continues to supply the community. The skete also holds relics connected to Saint Antipas, a figure venerated across the Orthodox world.
