Kammenyi Bor

Kammenyi Bor is a former quarry that filled with water and now forms a lake in Petrozavodsk's southern neighborhoods. The site features varying water depths and exposed rock walls that show the geological layers clearly to visitors.

Stone extraction began here in the late 1700s to supply building materials for the region. When quarrying stopped in the 1980s, water gradually filled the excavated space and created the lake that exists today.

Local residents frequently gather at the quarry lake for outdoor activities, photography sessions, and geological observations of the exposed rock formations.

The lake is located near residential areas and is easy to reach, but swimming is not permitted. Visitors typically come for photography and nature observation, especially to watch the many birds.

The water here has a special composition similar to nearby springs, which supports a rich ecosystem. This creates conditions where dozens of bird species and other water organisms thrive, many of which are unusual for this region.
