Schinosaur, Tire sculpture in Mnevniki, Russia
The Schinosaur was a steel pipe frame covered with car tires of different sizes, painted blue, yellow and red. This form rose over six meters (20 feet) high and shaped a kind of dinosaur made from recycled materials.
Car enthusiasts from the area built this playground figure in 1987 near the First Motor Company using old tires from nearby repair shops. It was later taken down and disappeared from the local scene.
The Schinosaur represented a significant example of Soviet-era public art, demonstrating creative use of recycled materials in urban residential areas.
The figure stood near residential buildings on Mnevniki Street and served as a meeting point for children from surrounding neighborhoods. It is no longer there today, but many residents still remember the spot.
Some residents even had the figure tattooed on their skin to express their connection to the neighborhood. This shows how deeply this figure remained anchored in local memory.
