Halland Museum of Cultural History

The Halland Museum of Cultural History sits inside Varberg Fortress and displays collections spanning from prehistoric times through the medieval period. The exhibits include archaeological finds and personal items that document everyday life across different eras of the region.

The museum was founded in 1916 and moved into Varberg Fortress a year later, where it has remained ever since. Over the decades the exhibitions were updated and reorganized to better showcase the region's archaeological and historical materials.

The Bocksten Man, a skeleton roughly 600 years old still wearing preserved clothing, was discovered in a local bog in 1936 and ranks among Sweden's most important medieval finds. The nearly intact textiles offer rare insight into how people actually dressed and lived during that era.
