Tofslärkan 8, Historical building in Östermalm, Stockholm, Sweden
Tofslärkan 8 is a three-story building with basement and attic located at the corner of Odengatan and Valhallavägen, featuring gray-yellow rendered facades and a distinctive bay window projection. Access is provided from both streets, with the architecture displaying an elegant corner treatment and central gable design.
The structure was built between 1909 and 1911 according to architect Albin Brag's designs for physician Johan Arvedson. Construction by Hesselman & Bergström brought the doctor's progressive ideas about women's health and education into physical form.
The building once served as a women's educational center where practical skills and health training were central to its purpose. Today, the design and layout still reflect this focus on learning and wellness.
The building occupies a well-accessible corner location with entry points from both streets, making navigation straightforward. The extensive windows throughout allow good visibility of the surroundings, helping visitors understand their position in the neighborhood.
The main facade displays a central gable topped by a decorative balcony supported by four distinctive brackets. The brackets carry the original owner's initials, 'J A', which remain a recognizable mark of the building's identity.
