East Region, Administrative region in Singapore.
The East Region is Singapore's eastern administrative district, comprising six planning areas such as Bedok, Changi, and Tampines. It combines residential neighborhoods, commercial zones, and the city's main international airport along its coastline.
The region underwent rapid development starting in the 1960s with the construction of the international airport and a naval base. These infrastructure projects transformed the area from largely undeveloped land into Singapore's eastern hub.
The East Region maintains multiple international educational institutions, including the United World College of South East Asia and Canadian International School.
The area connects easily to central Singapore through the East West MRT line, making travel between districts straightforward. Each planning area within the region has its own mix of amenities, from markets and shopping centers to parks and residential streets.
With 685,890 residents in an area of 93.1 square kilometers, the East Region represents Singapore's second most densely populated district.
