Hričov Castle

Hričov Castle is a castle ruin located on a hilltop above the Váh River valley, featuring the remains of stone structures and defensive works. The site overlooks woodlands and provides views across the surrounding landscape below.

The castle was founded in 1265 when King Bela IV granted the estate to a local magnate who began its construction. The site maintained importance in controlling the valley region for several centuries afterward.

The path to the ruins starts from Hričovské Podhradie village and follows marked trails uphill, with most visitors needing about an hour to reach the top. The paths can become slippery after rain and some sections require steady footing.

Three small caves are tucked into the hilltop's rock face and have been used in various ways over time. From this vantage point, visitors can also spot the Hričovská Rock Needle, a distinctive stone formation rising from the valley floor.
