Mueang Kamphaeng Phet

Mueang Kamphaeng Phet district extends over 1,962 square kilometers of central Thailand, incorporating 16 sub-districts and 220 administrative villages within its boundaries.

The district received its current name in 1917, evolving from its earlier identity as Chakangrao during the Sukhothai Kingdom's 14th-century period.

The district maintains administrative authority over numerous temples, including Wat Phra Borom That, while preserving traditional Thai governmental structures through local sub-district organizations.

The district's population of 213,228 residents receives services through two main towns, Kamphaeng Phet and Nong Pling, along with five sub-district municipalities.

Located at 80 meters elevation, the district encompasses both banks of the Ping River, with the ancient settlements of Chakangrao and Nakhon Chum marking its eastern and western territories.
