Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok: Uthenthawai Campus, Historic university campus in Pathum Wan, Thailand
Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok Uthenthawai Campus is a registered heritage site serving students in the Pathum Wan district of Bangkok, with several buildings arranged along Phaya Thai Road. Its landmark first building is a two-story reinforced concrete structure topped by a low hipped roof and marked by symmetrical facades with staircases placed both inside and outside.
Founded in 1933 as Uthenthawai School of Construction, the institution trained builders and technical workers before gaining college status in 1974. It was elevated to full university standing in 2005, expanding its range of programs.
The first building houses a memorial containing ashes of former school directors, creating a daily reminder of educational roots for those who walk its halls. Students pass this space regularly on their way to lectures and library rooms.
The location in central Bangkok places visitors near metro stations and bus routes for easy arrival and departure from the grounds. Nearby streets offer restaurants and shops within walking distance for breaks between exploring the buildings.
Students and staff participated in building the first structure in 1941, applying their technical training directly to its construction. Their work resulted in a design with both interior and exterior staircases serving different wings of the building.
