Dong Lakhon historical city

Dong Lakhon is an archaeological site with the remains of an ancient city built on elevated terrain, showing foundations of structures and defensive works. The location reveals layered evidence of habitation across centuries, with artifacts scattered throughout the dig areas.

The site developed under Dvaravati influence beginning in the 9th century, a period lasting until the 11th century marked by prosperity. Khmer rulers then took control from the 12th to 14th century, leaving their own cultural marks on the settlement.

The name Dong Lakhon means jungle of classical dance, rooted in local accounts of mysterious music heard on holy days throughout the settlement's history. Visitors walking through the ruins can sense how music and spiritual life shaped the community's identity over time.
