Wat Bot, Buddhist temple in Bang Krabue, Thailand
Wat Bot is a registered Thai historic site and Buddhist temple in Bang Krabue, a district north of Bangkok, made up of several religious structures built in traditional Thai style. The compound includes an ordination hall, chedis, and other buildings arranged around open courtyards.
The temple's origins go back several centuries, tied to the time when this part of Bang Krabue was an active trading area for cattle coming from the northeast. Its status as a registered historic site gives its structures and artwork formal protection under Thai law.
The name "Wat Bot" reflects the area's past as a cattle trading spot, since "bot" means cattle in Thai. Today, people from the surrounding area gather here for Buddhist celebrations and seasonal ceremonies.
The temple is located in Bang Krabue, north of Bangkok, and is most easily reached by private vehicle or by longtail boat along Khlong Bang Krabue. As in all Thai temples, visitors should cover their shoulders and knees, and remove their shoes before entering any building.
The canal running alongside the temple was once part of the main route used by cattle traders moving animals toward Bangkok markets. That same waterway still connects the area to the wider network of canals around the capital.
