SALT

SALT is an art museum and research library operating from two locations in Istanbul, bringing together exhibition spaces, archival collections, and contemporary artworks in an integrated facility. The institution combines public gallery areas with dedicated spaces designed for scholarly research and document consultation.

The institution was founded in 2011 through the merger of several established art organizations with distinct collections and expertise. This joining of forces combined different professional perspectives and created an entity with broader resources and reach.

The space functions as a hub where visitors can encounter both local and international artistic voices within the same institution. People come to experience how contemporary art addresses themes relevant to their own lives and communities.

Both locations are situated in central Istanbul neighborhoods accessible by public transportation. The library and exhibition galleries operate with varying schedules, so checking in advance helps plan your visit effectively.

One venue is housed within a historic bank building from the late 1800s, displaying contemporary art within rooms that tell a different story from another era. Walking through galleries in these preserved spaces adds a layer of historical encounter that goes beyond typical museum visits.
