Yuanli extends over 68 square kilometers of land, featuring both hilly regions and fertile plains near the northern shore of the Daan River.

The area gained importance during early settlement periods when local women initiated rush mat weaving practices, establishing a textile tradition that persisted through generations.

The township maintains strong agricultural traditions with 3,000 hectares of rice fields, earning recognition as the principal granary of Miaoli County.

Regular bus services connect Yuanli to neighboring regions, while local roads provide access to twenty-five distinct villages spread across the administrative division.

Local fishermen supply fresh shark meat to produce fish balls, transforming this marine resource into a recognized regional food product.
