Old DaAn River Bridge, Historical bridge in Dajia District, Taichung, Taiwan
The Old DaAn River Bridge crosses the lower section of the DaAn River using steel construction techniques from the 1920s. The structure has sustained damage since 2004, and ongoing restoration work currently prevents public access to the bridge.
Built in 1920, it originally served both railway and road traffic, connecting communities along Taiwan's west coast railway line. The structure became significant to regional transportation infrastructure during that period.
The structure received protected heritage status in 2006 and represents how early transportation networks connected communities across the region. It remains a physical reminder of engineering choices from that era.
The bridge is currently not accessible to visitors due to ongoing restoration work. It is best viewed from a nearby vantage point outside the work area until the project is completed.
The bridge combined railway and road traffic on a single structure, a rare engineering solution for Taiwan's transportation network in the 1920s. This dual-function design was uncommon for infrastructure projects of that time.
