Longteng Bridge, Railway bridge in Longteng Village, Sanyi Township, Miaoli County, Taiwan.
Longteng Bridge is a railway bridge that crosses the Yutengping River in the Sanyi area of Miaoli County. The structure spans the water with an iron framework and stands as a lasting piece of engineering that visitors can examine up close.
An earthquake in 1935 destroyed the original bridge built in 1906, leading engineers to construct this replacement in 1938. The rebuilding allowed rail service to resume across the river following the disaster.
The bridge takes its name from a local plant that residents associated with fish behavior in the river below. This connection between the natural world and the place's name reflects how communities once understood their landscape.
The bridge is easiest to reach by car via National Highway 1 or by taxi from Sanyi Railway Station. Visitors often find the best light for viewing and photography in the early morning or late afternoon hours.
White tung tree flowers bloom around both the current iron bridge and the remaining stone pillars of the original structure each spring. This seasonal display connects the newer structure with the ruins of its predecessor.
