Coffin Temple

Coffin Temple is a temple complex in North District, Taichung, featuring multiple entrance gates including Lixing Gate, Guande Gate, and Dacheng Gate positioned throughout the site. The different buildings and spaces within the grounds are carefully arranged to create a cohesive religious environment.

Construction of the temple began in 1972 and was completed in 1976, establishing a new religious center for the community. The project came about during a time when Taichung was expanding and needed new places for spiritual gatherings.

The temple reflects the layout and design principles of Confucian places of worship, which you can see in how the different zones and buildings are organized. Walking through it, visitors notice how each section has a specific purpose and how the spaces flow naturally into one another.

The temple is easily reached by public transportation, either by train to Taichung Station or by bus with stops nearby. The site itself is pedestrian-friendly and clearly signposted throughout.

The complex was designed according to principles from the Song dynasty, with careful attention to spatial layout and structural proportions. These details are visible in the symmetrical arrangement and the flow between different zones.
