Ladan, Rural settlement in Pryluky Raion, Ukraine.
Ladan is a settlement in Pryluky Raion, in the northern part of Ukraine, situated on the right bank of the Uday River. The surrounding land is flat and mostly used for farming, with local roads connecting it to nearby villages and towns.
The area around Ladan shows signs of settlement going back to the second millennium BC, based on archaeological finds. The place appears in written records for the first time in the late 12th century.
The name Ladan comes from the Ukrainian word for incense, suggesting an old connection to religious life in the area. Small Orthodox churches are still a visible part of everyday life in the settlement today.
Ladan sits along the H07 highway, which links it to larger towns in the region. Visitors should keep in mind that services are limited, so it is worth planning ahead before arriving.
In 2024, Ladan was officially reclassified from an urban-type settlement to a rural settlement as part of a nationwide administrative reform. Many similar places across Ukraine went through the same change at the same time.
