Ladan Monastery, Orthodox monastery in Ladan, Ukraine.
Ladan Monastery is an Orthodox monastic complex situated along the Uday River near Priluky in Ukraine. The grounds contain the Holy Pokrovsky Cathedral and Ascension Church, connected by pathways and surrounded by monastic buildings that serve the religious community.
Founded in 1603 as Pokrovsky Pidhirny Ladan Monastery, the site received initial support from Princess Raina Vyshnevetska for its construction. The complex later underwent significant changes during the Soviet era when portions of the grounds were repurposed for industrial use.
The monastery serves as a working center of Orthodox faith where daily worship and seasonal celebrations shape the rhythm of monastic life. Visitors can observe traditional liturgical practices and interact with the religious community that maintains these customs.
Visitors should dress modestly when entering the religious buildings and be mindful of ongoing services that may restrict access to certain areas. The complex has minimal signage, so bringing a map or gathering information beforehand helps navigate the grounds more effectively.
During the Soviet period, part of the monastery grounds housed a factory called Pojmashina that manufactured fire protection equipment, and this industrial building still stands adjacent to the monastic complex. This unusual juxtaposition reflects how the site was repurposed during times of ideological change.
