Lotus F1, Formula One racing team in Enstone, United Kingdom
Lotus F1 was a racing team based at a technical facility in Enstone, Oxfordshire, competing in the Formula One World Championship with workshops, wind tunnels and design offices. The operation employed more than 400 engineers, mechanics and technicians who worked together on developing and maintaining the race cars.
The team was formed in 2012 when the Renault F1 squad competed under the Lotus name and participated in the world championship until 2015. After three seasons the structure returned to Renault ownership, ending the connection with the Lotus name.
Lotus F1 maintained the black and gold color scheme reminiscent of earlier Formula One racing teams, connecting modern racing with traditional design elements.
The team won two races during its first season and placed fourth in the constructor standings. Kimi Räikkönen drove both victories and contributed much of the success for the squad.
During the final 2015 season the squad switched from Renault to Mercedes engines, making a major technical change. This shift marked one of the few engine changes in the recent history of the racing operation.
