Blackheath, Urban village in Southeast London, England.

Blackheath is a residential area in southeast London, spread across the Royal Borough of Greenwich and the London Borough of Lewisham. The central heath covers more than 85 hectares (211 acres) of open grassland, surrounded by Georgian and Victorian houses lining tree-lined streets.

The area served as a gathering point for major uprisings during medieval times, including the Peasants' Revolt of 1381 and Jack Cade's rebellion of 1450. It later developed into a desirable residential neighborhood when wealthy Londoners built homes on the surrounding fields during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The Royal Blackheath Golf Club was founded in the 17th century and remains England's oldest golf organization outside Scotland. Players still use the open spaces for the traditional sport, while local residents walk their dogs and picnic on the grass throughout the year.

Blackheath station offers regular train services to Victoria and Cannon Street stations in central London. Several bus routes serve the surrounding streets, while the open heath is easy to reach on foot and offers plenty of room for walking and sports activities.

The name comes from Old English and means black heath, first recorded as Blachehedfeld in 1166. This term refers to the dark color of the soil, caused by its composition, which gives the area its characteristic appearance.
